United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) has announced to stop accepting applications under Tier-1 (General) visa category. Tier-1 (General) is immigration visa for skilled and self-employed people on basis of their age, qualification, earning and experience. Closure will effect from 00:01 on 23 December 2010.
From 10 January 2011: UK has announced a new Extended Visitor Visa for international students who want to study English course whole year. Maximum duration of the stay under “Extended Visitor Visa” is eleven (11) months. This is applicable only to the students who want to migrate to UK for English language course however other students would apply under regular Tier 4 category.

Canada doubles investment amount for Immigrant Investor Program (IIP), Minister Kenney stated. Effective from 1st December 2010, Canada has reinstated its investor program which was stopped in June 2010. In new investor program, investor immigrants have to show a personal net worth of CAD 1.6 million (raised from CAD 800,000/) and make an investment of CAD 800,000/ (raised from CAD 400,000/) in Canada for five years.
